Day 01 : Montevideo (Tango & Culture)
  • Arrive in Montevideo and transfer to your downtown hotel.
  • Afternoon at leisure to stroll along Avenida de la Libertad (“Rambla”) and explore Mercado del Puerto (barbecue market).
  • Evening sampling of local tango or candombe rhythms in the historic district. Overnight in Montevideo.
Day 02 : Montevideo → Fortín de San Miguel (Gaucho Experience)
  • After breakfast, drive east toward Rocha province, visiting the border town of Chuy (blend of Uruguayan and Brazilian cultures).
  • Arrive at a historic fort on Merlin Lagoon. Meet local gauchos and embark on a horseback ride through rolling hills up Cerro Picudo for panoramic views of countryside and lagoon. Overnight near Fortín de San Miguel.
Day 03 : Fortín de San Miguel → La Coronilla (Coastal Ride)
  • Morning 3–4 hour ride along the Brazilian border, crossing into Uruguay and back. Picnic lunch at a working estancia.
  • Afternoon canter along an isolated ocean beach (Barra Chuy to La Coronilla, approx. 22 km).
  • Overnight at a beachside lodge near La Coronilla.
Day 04 : La Coronilla → Santa Teresa National Park (Park Trails & Shipwreck)
  • Ride through beaches, dunes, and pine forests into Santa Teresa National Park (site of an 18th century Portuguese fort). Picnic lunch in the park.
  • Afternoon beach ride, passing a historic shipwreck and, if lucky, spotting dolphins along the shoreline.
  • Return to your beachside lodging for dinner and overnight.
Day 05 : Santa Teresa → Cabo Polonio (Dunes & Wildlife)
  • Drive to the coast, meet horses, and ride to hidden Brioso Lagoon and Valizas Beach. Picnic lunch en route.
  • Ride through shifting sand dunes (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve) to Cabo Polonio village (accessible only by horse or 4×4).
  • Visit lighthouse, seal and sea-lion colonies, and dunes. Dinner and overnight near Cabo Polonio.
Day 06 : Cabo Polonio → Ombú Forest & Estancia
  • Morning ride along beaches to view sea lions and, occasionally, migrating whales. Continue into wetlands and palm groves en route to a working estancia in Rocha.
  • Picnic lunch on the trail. Arrive at the estancia in the afternoon for a traditional countryside experience. Overnight at the estancia.
Day 07 : Estancia (Gaucho Work & Cattle Handling)
  • Morning ride across estancia fields, working alongside gauchos to herd cattle and sheep. Depending on season, assist with roundups or animal care.
  • Lunch at a neighboring ranch, then return ride to your home estancia. Overnight at the estancia.
Day 08 : Estancia → Castillos → Montevideo
  • After breakfast, ride toward the small town of Castillos. Visit a local gaucho supplies store to see traditional bridles, bombachas, hats, and ponchos.
  • Picnic lunch and say farewell to your horses.
  • Drive back to Montevideo, arriving in the late afternoon. Tour concludes.
